Here is a quick mnemonic “VESTIBULAR MIGRAINE to remember about Vestibular Migraine

This can be valuable for patients as well as medical doctors, nurses & students doing their clinical rounds. You can also find it very useful for med exams like USMLE, NEET PG, FMGE, NExT & NCLEX exams

Vestibular Migraine : How To Remember Easily ?

  • V – Vestibular migraine is a common yet underdiagnosed cause of episodic vertigo.
  • E – Episodic vertigo sometimes precedes a typical migraine headache.
  • S – Some patients who have had frequent migraine headaches in the past present later in life with vestibular migraine as the predominant problem.
  • T – The duration of vertigo in vestibular migraine may be from minutes to hours.
  • I – In vestibular migraine, motion sensitivity and sensitivity to visual motion are common.
  • B – Both photophobia and phonophobia may be present even in the absence of headache.
  • U – Underdiagnosed vestibular migraine can be treated with medications used for prophylaxis of migraine headaches.
  • L – Long-lasting periods of disequilibrium lasting days to weeks can occur in some migraineurs.
  • A – Antiemetics may be helpful to relieve symptoms at the time of an attack.
  • R – Relief from symptoms can be achieved with appropriate medications.
  • M – More often, vertigo occurs without headache or with only a mild headache.
  • I – In vestibular migraine, some migraineurs also experience more prolonged periods of disequilibrium.

  • N – Neurologists may prescribe prophylactic medications for vestibular migraine.
  • E – Episodes of vertigo in vestibular migraine can last from minutes to hours.
