  • V – Varicella: A highly contagious disease occurring in winter or spring, characterized by pruritic lesions in different stages of development.

  • A – At any point in time: Varicella lesions can be in different stages of development within a given region of the body.

  • R – Regions occluded by bathing suits: Lesions of hot-tub folliculitis occur in areas covered by bathing suits after outbreaks in hot tubs or swimming pools.

  • I – Immunocompromised hosts: Varicella vesicles may lack the characteristic erythematous base or appear hemorrhagic in individuals with weakened immune systems.

  • O – Outbreaks after bathing: Hot-tub folliculitis generally occurs in outbreaks after bathing in hot tubs or swimming pools.
