Here is a quick mnemonic “DISORDER to remember about Sleep Terrors

This can be valuable for patients as well as medical doctors, nurses & students doing their clinical rounds. You can also find it very useful for med exams like USMLE, MBBS, NEET PG, FMGE, NExT, MCAT & NCLEX exams

Sleep Terrors : How To Remember Easily ?

  • D – During sleep, the child often sits up and screams.
  • I – Individual may be difficult to arouse.
  • S – Sweating, tachycardia, and large pupils are exhibited during the episode.
  • O – Often occurs primarily in young children during the first few hours of sleep.
  • R – Rarely recalls the episode on awakening in the morning.
  • D – Disorder occurs during NREM stage N3 sleep.
  • E – Episode is characterized by autonomic arousal and hyperventilation.
  • R – Reassuring parents that the condition is self-limited and benign is part of the treatment.
