Rubella, also known as German measles, is a viral infection caused by the rubella virus. It is characterized by a rash that starts on the face and then spreads to the rest of the body. Rubella is typically a mild illness in children and young adults, but it can cause serious complications if contracted by pregnant women.

This can be valuable for patients as well as medical doctors, nurses & students doing their clinical rounds. You can also find it very useful for med exams like USMLE, NEET PG, FMGE, NExT & NCLEX exams

Rubella (German Measles) Rash: How To Remember Easily ?

  • A – Adenopathy: Enlarged lymph nodes are a common symptom.
  • D – Downward: The rash caused by the Togavirus spreads from the hairline downward.
  • E – Enlarged lymph nodes: Adenopathy is characterized by swollen lymph nodes.
  • N – Nonimmune: Nonimmune individuals are susceptible to the Togavirus.
  • O – Overcoming: Overcoming the symptoms of adenopathy requires proper treatment.
  • P – Painful joints: Arthritis can cause discomfort and pain in the joints.
  • A – Asymptomatic: Some individuals with adenopathy may not exhibit any symptoms.
  • T – Togavirus: The viral infection responsible for adenopathy is caused by a Togavirus.
  • H – Hairline rash: The rash associated with the Togavirus starts at the hairline.
