Here is a quick mnemonic “QUAD KING to remember about Quadriparesis

This can be valuable for patients as well as medical doctors, nurses & students doing their clinical rounds. You can also find it very useful for med exams like USMLE, NEET PG, FMGE, NExT & NCLEX exams

Quadriparesis : How To Remember Easily ?

  • Q – Quadriparesis: Quadriparesis is commonly used when an upper motor neuron cause is suspected.
  • U – Upper motor neuron: Quadriparesis is commonly used when an upper motor neuron cause is suspected.
  • A – Associated changes: Weakness from CNS disorders usually is associated with changes in consciousness or cognition.
  • D – Disease of the motor units: Generalized weakness is used when a disease of the motor units is likely.
  • K – Known symptoms: Weakness from CNS disorders is accompanied by spasticity, hyperreflexia, and sensory disturbances.
  • I – Intermittent weakness
  • N – Neuromuscular causes: Most neuromuscular causes of generalized weakness are associated with normal mental function, hypotonia, and hypoactive muscle stretch reflexes.
  • G – Generalized weakness: Generalized weakness may be due to disorders of the CNS or the motor unit.
