Purpura Fulminans Rash : How To Remember Easily ?

 

F – Fulminans: The condition being described is called Fulminans.

U – Unusual presentation: Purpura fulminans is characterized by large ecchymoses with sharply irregular shapes.

L – Lesions: These ecchymoses evolve into hemorrhagic bullae and then into black necrotic lesions.

M – Malignancy: Individuals with sepsis, such as involving N. meningitidis, or malignancy are at risk for developing purpura fulminans.

I – Irregular: The ecchymoses have sharply irregular shapes.

N – Necrotic: The lesions eventually become black necrotic areas.

A – Asplenic: Asplenic patients are at high risk for sepsis and can develop purpura fulminans.

N – N. meningitidis: Infections involving N. meningitidis can lead to the development of purpura fulminans.

S – Sepsis: Fulminans is often associated with severe sepsis.
