When the body either makes too much acid or can’t get rid of acid in the blood, a condition known as metabolic acidosis develops. This can cause the body’s pH to drop, which is detrimental to its cells and tissues.
Metabolic acidosis can result in an unhealthy elevation of acid in the blood. The kidneys, lungs, and brain are all negatively affected by high blood acid levels. If neglected, it can also lead to coma and death.
