When fluid collects in the lung’s tiny, elastic air sacs (alveoli), a condition known as acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) develops.
Due to the fluid, your lungs won’t be able to take in as much air, and as a result, your blood won’t get as much oxygen. (Source)
