Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a serious lung disorder that arises when the lungs are unable to give enough oxygen to the body’s organs. It is characterised by quick onset of difficulty breathing, low oxygen levels in the blood, and inflammation in the lungs. ARDS can be caused by a multitude of reasons, including pneumonia, sepsis, trauma, and lung injury by inhaling toxic substances.

Treatment for ARDS often comprises oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilation, and supportive care. The prognosis for ARDS can vary depending on the underlying cause and the severity of the disease, although it can be deadly in some situations.
