Lemierre’s Syndrome : How To Remember Easily ?

  • L – Lung infection is a common manifestation in Lemierre’s syndrome.
  • E – Extrapharyngeal symptoms such as neck pain or swelling may be present.
  • M – Metastatic infections can occur in various organs like the joints, bones, liver, meninges, and brain.
  • I – Internal jugular vein septic thrombophlebitis is a hallmark feature of Lemierre’s syndrome.
  • E – Eikenella, Bacteroides, and Streptococcus are some of the bacteria that can cause this syndrome.
  • R – Resolving non-GAS pharyngitis in a teenage or young adult should raise suspicion for Lemierre’s syndrome.
  • R – Rigors may accompany the symptoms of Lemierre’s syndrome.
  • E – Evaluation of male patients should include consideration of Lemierre’s syndrome.
