With this mnemonic, you will never forget about “Left Ventricular Failure MCQs” during your medical & nursing exams
Left ventricular failure, also called left-sided heart failure, is a condition in which the left ventricle of the heart can’t pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs.
The left ventricle is in charge of pumping oxygenated blood from the lungs to the rest of the body. If the left ventricle doesn’t work right, blood can back up in the lungs, making it hard to breathe and causing other problems.
Causes of left ventricular failure include high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, heart valve disease, and cardiomyopathy (a disease of the heart muscle).
Medication, changes in lifestyle, and, in the worst cases, surgery or a heart transplant may be used to treat heart failure.
Causes Of Left Ventricular Failure :
- H: Hypertension (chronic high blood pressure)
- A: Aortic stenosis (narrowing of the aortic valve)
- R: Regurgitation (aortic or mitral valve insufficiency)
- D: Dilated cardiomyopathy (enlarged and weakened heart muscle)
- H: Hypoxia (low oxygen supply to the heart muscle)
- E: Excessive afterload (resistance to blood flow from the heart)
- A: Arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm)
- R: Renal failure (kidney disease)
- T: Thyroid disease (overactive or underactive thyroid)
