Here is a quick mnemonic “RISKY EYE to remember about Keratitis

This can be valuable for patients as well as medical doctors, nurses & students doing their clinical rounds. You can also find it very useful for med exams like USMLE, MBBS, NEET PG, FMGE, NExT, MCAT & NCLEX exams

Keratitis : How To Remember Easily ?

  • R – Risk of corneal clouding, scarring, and perforation from keratitis
  • I – Importance of differentiating between superficial infection and a deeper ulcerative process
  • S – Severe cases may result in visual loss, pain, photophobia, redness, and discharge
  • K – Keratoconjunctivitis as a type of superficial infection
  • Y – Yeast or fungal etiology to be considered in cases of keratitis
  • E – Empirical antibiotic therapy should be initiated promptly
  • Y – Yeast or fungal infection common in warm humid climates
  • E – Examination with a slit-lamp reveals corneal epithelial disruption, stromal infiltrate, and anterior chamber reaction
