This mnemonic “SINUS HAR PAIN” is a great way to remember the most important things that is related to headache warning signs of a underlying disorder.

I had made this mnemonic in my med years and helped me a lot to understand the various factors that pointed towards an underlying disorder albeit with symptoms of headache. 

If you are a medical/nursing student then this mnemonic will be a great leveller in exams where you have to recall so much in so less time

Headache Warning Signs Of Underlying Disorder

  • S – Sudden onset
  • I – Intensity increases rapidly
  • N – Nausea or vomiting
  • U – Unilateral headache
  • S – Sensitivity to light or sound
  • H – History of head trauma
  • A – Age over 50
  • R – Regular use of pain relievers
  • P – Previous headache history
  • A – Aura present
  • I – Immunocompromised status
  • N – Neurologic symptoms or changes
