Here is a quick mnemonic “INABILITY to remember about Gerstmann’s Syndrome

This can be valuable for patients as well as medical doctors, nurses & students doing their clinical rounds. You can also find it very useful for med exams like USMLE, MBBS, NEET PG, FMGE, NExT, MCAT & NCLEX exams

Gerstmann’s Syndrome : How To Remember Easily ?

  • I – Impairment of simple arithmetic (acalculia)
  • N – Naming deficit for individual fingers (finger anomia)
  • A – Aphasia excluded (patient is not otherwise aphasic)
  • B – Body part confusion (right-left confusion)
  • I – Impaired writing (dysgraphia)
  • L – Left hemisphere damage (especially the angular gyrus)
  • I – Inferior parietal lobule involvement (damage to the inferior parietal lobule)
  • T – Telltale signs of Gerstmann’s syndrome (combination of symptoms)
  • Y – Yes to the specific deficits, no to more generalized anomia
