Functional Gait Disorder: How To Remember Easily ?

  • K – Key features: The key features of functional neurologic disorders are sudden onset, inconsistent deficits, waxing and waning course, incongruence of symptoms with an organic lesion, and improvement with distraction.
  • E – Extreme slow motion: Phenomenology in functional neurologic disorders can include extreme slow motion.
  • Y – Yellow caution: An inappropriately overcautious gait can be observed in functional neurologic disorders.
  • F – Foot stiffness: Dystonia, characterized by foot stiffness, is a possible manifestation of functional neurologic disorders.
  • E – Energy wastage: Odd gyrations of posture with wastage of muscular energy can be seen in functional neurologic disorders.
