Exanthematous drug-induced eruption, also known as a drug rash, is a type of adverse drug reaction characterized by a widespread rash on the skin. It is one of the most common types of drug eruptions and can occur as a result of various medications.

This can be valuable for patients as well as medical doctors, nurses & students doing their clinical rounds. You can also find it very useful for med exams like USMLE, NEET PG, FMGE, NExT & NCLEX exams

Exanthematous Drug-Induced Eruption Rash: How To Remember Easily ?

  • D – Drugs can cause intensely pruritic, bright-red macules and papules
  • R – Rash is symmetric on trunk and extremities; may become confluent
  • U – Usually occurs 2-3 days after exposure in previously sensitized individuals
  • G – Generally appears after 2-3 weeks in non-sensitized individuals but can occur anytime
  • T – Temperature may be elevated with fever
  • E – Eosinophilia is a variable finding
  • S – Symptoms may persist even after drug is discontinued
  • T – Testing may be needed to confirm diagnosis
