Episcleritis : How To Remember Easily ?

  • E – Episcleritis is an inflammation of the episclera.
  • P – It is a more localized process and discharge is absent.
  • I – Most cases of episcleritis are idiopathic.
  • S – Scleritis refers to a deeper, more severe inflammatory process.
  • C – Connective tissue diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis are associated with scleritis.
  • L – Lupus erythematosus is another autoimmune disease linked to scleritis.
  • E – Episcleritis can be treated with NSAIDs.
  • R – Relapsing polychondritis is also a connective tissue disease associated with scleritis.
  • I – In anterior forms of scleritis, the globe assumes a violet hue.
  • T – The patient complains of severe ocular tenderness and pain.
  • I – In posterior scleritis, there may be proptosis and choroidal effusion.
  • S – Reduced motility and visual loss are common in posterior scleritis.
