Endophthalmitis : How To Remember Easily ?

  • E – Eye infection affecting internal structures
  • N – Numerous causes: bacterial, viral, fungal, or parasitic
  • D – Disease spread through hematogenous seeding
  • O – Ocular pain and injection, visual loss may occur
  • P – Patients at risk: chronically ill, diabetic, immunosuppressed
  • H – History of indwelling IV catheters or positive blood cultures
  • T – Transmitted via septic emboli from distant sites
  • H – Hemorrhages known as Roth’s spots may be present
  • A – Acquired after ocular surgery, especially glaucoma filtering
  • L – Long-lasting effects, complications can arise later
  • M – Manifestations include inflammation and infection
  • I – Intraocular involvement, potential for serious consequences
  • T – Trauma or penetrating foreign body may be underlying cause
  • I – Infection can occur even without obvious symptoms
  • S – Subacute bacterial endocarditis may exhibit Roth’s spots
