You are currently viewing Dieulafoy’s Lesion : Mnemonics [NEVER FORGET AGAIN]

Students studying medicine and nursing may find it helpful to remember the important elements of this lesion by using the mnemonic “DIEULAFOY’S RulEs.”

Students can quickly retain the key details regarding Dieulafoy’s Lesion, such as its distinguishing characteristics, diagnosis, and available treatments, by memorising this mnemonic.

A persistent, large-caliber artery that runs directly beneath the gastrointestinal mucosa and has the potential to cause extensive bleeding through a focal mucosal erosion is the hallmark of the uncommon but potentially fatal illness known as Dieulafoy’s Lesion.

While it is not actively bleeding, it frequently affects the proximal stomach’s lower curvature and can be challenging to diagnose.

Dieulafoy’s Lesion : How To Remember For Exams ?

  • D – Dieulafoy’s Lesion is a persistent caliber artery
  • I – It runs beneath the gastrointestinal mucosa
  • E – Erodes the focal mucosa and causes bleeding
  • U – Usually involves the lesser curvature of the proximal stomach
  • L – Leads to impressive arterial hemorrhage
  • A – Actively bleeding lesions are easier to diagnose
  • F – Frequently recognized after repeated endoscopy
  • O – Endoscopic therapy is typically effective for controlling bleeding
  • Y – You can use thermal coagulation, band ligation, clip placement, or endoscopic suturing
  • S – Sealing of the underlying vessel is important once the lesion is identified
  • R – Rescue therapies may be required if endoscopic therapy fails
  • E – Embolization or surgical oversewing are considered in such cases
