Dengue Fever Rash : How To Remember Easily ?

  • S – Serotypes of dengue virus (flaviviruses)
  • P – Petechiae on extremities may occur after defervescence
  • R – Rash in 50% of cases; initially diffuse flushing
  • E – Occurs in tropics and subtropics; transmitted by mosquito
  • A – Musculoskeletal pain (“breakbone fever”); leukopenia; occasionally biphasic (“saddleback”) fever
  • D – Dengue virus has four serotypes
  • S – Spreads centrifugally from trunk to extremities and face; pruritus, hyperesthesia in some cases.
