Here is a quick mnemonic “CLUBBING to remember about Clubbing

This can be valuable for patients as well as medical doctors, nurses & students doing their clinical rounds. You can also find it very useful for med exams like USMLE, NExT Medical Step 1&2, MBBS, NEET PG, INI-CET, FMGE,MCAT & NCLEX exams

Clubbing : How To Remember Easily ?

  • C – Connective tissue proliferation causes bulbous enlargement of fingers and toes.
  • L – Lung cancer, mesothelioma, bronchiectasis, and hepatic cirrhosis are associated with clubbing.
  • U – Ultrasound and MRI can aid in the diagnosis of hypertrophic osteoarthropathy.
  • B – Bone formation and symmetric arthritis-like changes occur in hypertrophic osteoarthropathy.
  • B – Base of the clubbed nail shows increased sponginess of the soft tissue.
  • I – Idiopathic and acquired causes contribute to clubbing.
  • N – Nail abnormalities are observed in clubbing, including changes in shape and texture.
  • G – Gastrointestinal diseases like inflammatory bowel disease and hepatic cirrhosis are linked to clubbing.
