  • M – Multiple sclerosis may cause quadriparesis
  • O – Over weeks to years, quadriparesis may develop
  • T – Tumors in the brain or spinal cord can lead to quadriparesis
  • O – Obtunded patients should undergo a CT scan of the brain
  • R – Rapid onset of upper motor neuron signs requires an MRI of the cervical cord
  • N – Neuropathy can result in quadriparesis
  • E – Electrolyte levels can be determined through laboratory studies
  • U – Uncertain weakness requires further investigation
  • R – Routine EMG and nerve conduction studies can help localize the pathology
