Here is a quick mnemonic “EYE LASHES to remember about Blepharitis

This can be valuable for patients as well as medical doctors, nurses & students doing their clinical rounds. You can also find it very useful for med exams like USMLE, MBBS, NEET PG, FMGE, NExT, MCAT & NCLEX exams

Blepharitis : How To Remember Easily ?

  • E – Eyelid inflammation is associated with acne rosacea or seborrheic dermatitis.
  • Y – Your eyelid margins may be colonized heavily by staphylococci.
  • E – Eyelids appear greasy, ulcerated, and crusted with scaling debris.
  • L – Lashes often have debris that clings to them.
  • A – Apply warm compresses and practice strict eyelid hygiene.
  • S – Styes (external hordeolum) are caused by staphylococcal infection.
  • H – Hordeolum (internal) occurs due to suppurative infection of meibomian glands.
  • E – Eyelash scrubs with baby shampoo can help maintain hygiene.
  • S – Systemic antibiotics may be necessary for chronic, severe blepharitis.
