Allergic Conjunctivitis : How To Remember Easily ?

  • I – In this condition, itching is a common symptom often mistaken for infectious conjunctivitis.
  • T – The palpebral conjunctiva may become hypertropic with giant excrescences called cobblestone papillae.
  • C – Contact lenses or any chronic foreign body can induce the formation of cobblestone papillae, causing itching.
  • H – Hypertropic conjunctiva and itching are typical symptoms of this condition.
  • I – Itching can be alleviated with cold compresses and topical vasoconstrictors in cases of allergic conjunctivitis.
  • N – Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ketorolac, are better alternatives for relieving itching.
  • G – Glucocorticoid solutions provide dramatic relief for immune-mediated forms of conjunctivitis but have long-term complications.
