African Trypanosomiasis Rash : How To Remember Easily ?
W – Winterbottom’s sign is a posterior cervical lymphadenopathy seen in African trypanosomiasis caused by Trypanosoma brucei gambiense.
H – Hemolymphatic disease followed by meningoencephalitis is a manifestation of Trypanosoma brucei gambiense infection.
I – In eastern or western Africa, the Tsetse fly bite can transmit African trypanosomiasis caused by Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense or Trypanosoma brucei gambiense.
T – The primary symptom of African trypanosomiasis is a Trypanid rash, which appears as blotchy or annular erythematous macular and papular rash primarily on the trunk, accompanied by pruritus.
E – Erythematous macular and papular rash is a characteristic feature of African trypanosomiasis caused by Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense or Trypanosoma brucei gambiense.
R – Rash (Trypanid) may develop several weeks after the chancre at the site of the tsetse fly bite in African trypanosomiasis.
A – African trypanosomiasis is caused by Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense or Trypanosoma brucei gambiense.
S – Several weeks after the tsetse fly bite, a rash (Trypanid) may appear in African trypanosomiasis.
H – Hemolymphatic disease followed by meningoencephalitis is seen in African trypanosomiasis caused by Trypanosoma brucei gambiense.
